On the instructions of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, the Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, on Tuesday took delivery of and officially opened the flyover crossing the Regional Express Train (Ter) line. This strategic structure, which directly links the Diamniadio Urban Hub to the National Road, is a central link in the traffic plan for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) and aims to ease congestion on the approaches to the new city on a lasting basis.

A major step forward has just been taken in the vast project to modernise the national road network. On Tuesday, the Minister of Infrastructure, Land Transport and Opening-up, Déthié Fall, presided over the official handover and opening ceremony of the flyover spanning the Ter railway line at Diamniadio. Its entry into service follows a sustained acceleration in the pace of works in recent weeks, carried out on the direct instructions of the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, who is keen to deliver priority projects on schedule.

A strategic route for the urban hub and the YOG

Designed to link the Diamniadio Urban Hub directly to the National Road, this new structure corrects a long-standing bottleneck. By providing direct and safe access over the Ter tracks, it allows motorists to join the main road network smoothly and quickly.

Beyond its immediate impact on the daily lives of road users and residents of the area, the flyover is among the key pieces of infrastructure in the overall traffic plan drawn up for hosting the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). It will ensure fast and safe links between the area’s various sports, hotel and administrative facilities.

Additional works to ease traffic flow

In the same area, major related works have been carried out to optimise the flow of vehicles. Beneath the second flyover, currently being completed on the National Road, a large roundabout has been built. This junction aims to regulate traffic and make it safer in both directions, thereby easing links between Diamniadio and Dakar while avoiding congestion at peak times.

With the delivery of this crossing, the government reaffirms its determination to modernise national infrastructure and to prepare for the major international events that Senegal is about to host.
