Every year, at the close of its Sustainable Development Week, the cement maker Dangote Cement Senegal (Dcs) awards excellence scholarships to reward the four best baccalaureate students in the science streams at high schools in the communes neighbouring the plant: Pout, Keur Moussa, Diass and Mont-Rolland.

This initiative, which forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (Rse) to encourage science streams and the success of young people in its areas of impact, is organised as part of the company’s Sustainable Development Week.

The scholarships represent significant financial support (raised to 1 million CFA francs per recipient over three years in recent editions), or were initially set up as multi-year support to encourage the training of the local elite.

The ceremony, held at the Pout plant and chaired by the plant’s Managing Director, Ousmane Mbaye, in the presence of local authorities, was an opportunity for the authorities to point out that the initiative aims to promote pupils’ excellence in the science streams.
